Current position》Motivation

The shortage of labor in agriculture and the adoption of agricultural machinery are significant issues in the agricultural sector. Labor shortage in agriculture refers to the scarcity of agricultural workforce, which may be caused by factors such as aging population, reluctance of young people to engage in agricultural work, and labor migration. The shortage of labor in agriculture affects agricultural production and the economy, as insufficient labor can result in delays in planting, harvesting, and processing crops.

 

To address the issue of labor shortage in agriculture, many agricultural producers are turning to agricultural mechanization. Agricultural mechanization helps reduce the reliance on manual labor, improves production efficiency, and lowers labor costs. Agricultural machinery includes equipment for cultivation, planting, harvesting, among others, which can perform many strenuous agricultural tasks and alleviate the labor burden on farmers.

 

However, agricultural mechanization also faces challenges. Firstly, the cost of agricultural machinery is relatively high, which may be unaffordable for some small-scale farms. Secondly, mechanization in agriculture may lead to unemployment among some agricultural laborers, especially those who depend on manual labor for their livelihoods. Therefore, achieving a balance between addressing labor shortages and adopting agricultural mechanization is an important issue that requires collaboration among governments, agricultural producers, and stakeholders.

 

In this context, we have chosen the Agricultural Machinery Research Laboratory within the Taichung District Agricultural Improvement Office as our research subject. We aim to document the evolution of agricultural machinery and classify its applications. Additionally, we plan to visit the facility, observe relevant machinery firsthand, understand the process of agricultural machinery development, and attempt to design our own concept of agricultural machinery.
