Agricultural machinery used for cultivation, commonly known as tillage equipment, plays a crucial role in preparing planting soil and promoting optimal crop growth. These machines are essential for breaking up soil, incorporating organic matter, and creating suitable seedbeds. Let's delve into the various types and functions of tillage equipment.

 

Plows: Plows are one of the oldest and most basic cultivation tools. Their design purpose is to turn over and loosen the soil, effectively bury crop residues and weed seeds, while also aerating the soil. There are various types of plows, including moldboard plows, disc plows, and chisel plows, each suitable for different soil types and conditions.

 

Disc Harrows: Disc harrows consist of a series of sharp rotating discs mounted on a frame. They are used to break up clods left by plowing, level the ground, and incorporate crop residues.

 

Rotary Tillers: Rotary tillers, also known as rototillers or rotary hoes, feature rotating blades or tines that stir and pulverize the soil. They are useful for breaking up compacted soil, controlling weeds, and preparing seedbeds, especially in small-scale farming operations, gardens, and landscaping applications.

 

Cultivators: Cultivators are cultivation tools designed for shallow soil tillage and weed control between crop rows. They typically consist of multiple curved shanks or tines that can stir the soil surface without significantly disrupting soil structure. Cultivators can be mounted on tractors or operated as standalone machines.

 

Subsoilers: Subsoilers are heavy-duty cultivation tools designed to break up compacted soil layers beneath the plow layer. They usually have long, narrow shanks that can penetrate deep into the soil, fracturing compacted layers and improving soil drainage, root penetration, and water infiltration.
